Route 1
Three Cheshire Castles
This ride heads out west towards the Sandstone Ridge to pass by three famous Cheshire castles, all of which may be visited if desired. (Enquire locally for opening times).
Directions
Leave The Dusty Miller and cross the Canal, keeping straight ahead past the boatyard, and proceed towards Cholmondeley.
Cross the A49, sp Egerton & Bickerton.
After a few hundred yards is the entrance to the first Castle, Cholmondeley.
If not visiting the castle, proceed straight ahead to Bickerton, alternatively, when leaving the castle grounds, turn right onto the Bickerton road.
Turn Right at Bickerton school, (No signpost).
Turn Right at Bickerton church, and climb Brunty Bank (not steep)
Turn Right onto the A534.
Turn Left at The Bickerton Poacher, sp Peckforton.
At Peckforton village, look out for the Elephant and Castle, an unusual Beehive in front of a cottage.
The entrance to Peckforton castle is soon passed on the left, it is quite a climb to the castle, but worth the effort.
Proceed ahead past Peckforton castle, (or left from the exit if you have visited it) to Beeston.
Turn left then right at Beeston, following the signs to Beeston Castle.
On leaving Beeston Castle, retrace the route past Peckforton castle to Peckforton village, turning left, sp Bunbury.
Cross the A49 and enter Long Lane.
Proceed ahead past the Yew Tree Inn, then take the second right turn into Cappers Lane (sp Brindley & Faddiley ). (Take care here, the turn is on a sharp left hand bend).
Cross the A534, sp Swanley & Chorley.
Turn right at the next T junction, into Ikey Lane.
Take the next Left turn, sp Swanley & Acton, then left again at the end of Hollin Green Lane, (no sp here)
Cross the canal, then turn right, sp Stoneley Green & Ravensmoor
Turn right at Ravensmoor & continue on through Wrenbury to return to the Dusty Miller.
