Route 2

To Marbury Mere and the Monument

This short ride visits Marbury, with its fine view from the Churchyard over Marbury mere, and then climbs to the monument, a prominent landmark overlooking Combermere Park, with fine views to the west and the Welsh hills.

Directions

Cross the canal and turn left immediately.

Proceed to Norbury, then turning left, sp Marbury

Turn left at the next T junction, sp Marbury & Whitchurch .

Turn left at Marbury and enter the village.

Marbury Church is on the right, and is worth a visit for the fine view over the mere.

Leave Marbury by keeping to the right along the Whitchurch road.

Turn left at the top of the bank, sp Hollyhurst & Marley Green.

Proceed under the railway, and follow the lane around to the left, eventually passing the monument on the right. (Take a short walk across the field to the monument).

Proceed onwards down the hill and pass under the railway again.

Turn right under the railway, and return to Wrenbury
